Spectrum Light Weight PLA is a modern PLA-based filament. The uniqueness of this material comes from the use of innovative active foaming technology, activated by temperature.

During the full foaming phase, the filament increases its volume by more than 2 times, reaching an extremely low density of about 0.52 g/cm3. This material gives the user extraordinary flexibility in regulating the flow of material, allowing it to be reduced by up to 55%. This, in turn, makes it possible to create parts with significantly reduced weight. In addition, it is possible to use the foaming capability to speed up the 3D printing process by using thicker layers or single, solid contours.

The speed and level of foaming can be controlled by changing the printing temperature, which allows you to adjust the material density for different parts as needed. This filament is an excellent solution for printing RC aircraft models and other projects where light weight is important. By using Spectrum Light Weight PLA, it is possible to achieve a significant reduction in the weight of printed parts, up to 50% compared to traditional PLA.
The extraordinary properties of this filament allow users to enjoy not only low weight, but also exceptional durability and precision of prints. The matte and rough surface finish, gives the finished parts an attractive appearance and effectively masks the layers.

Foaming activation occurs for printing temperatures from 220°C and should peak in the temperature range of 240°C - 250°C. Note that when the flow rate is significantly reduced, foaming of the filament may occur before leaving the nozzle and clogging the extruder. The color of the filament will become slightly lighter when the material is foamed to the maximum.

How it works.

In order to get the maximum properties of Spectrum Light Weight PLA, it is necessary to adjust the printing settings.

1 It is necessary to print simple thin-walled models. It is necessary that the print has only 1 outline (vase mode). Test thin-walled models should be printed in the temperature range of 220°C, and 280°C, preferably with an interval of 10°C.

2 Measure the wall thickness of each test model and choose the temperature at which the wall thickness is the greatest.

(3) Then, for the temperature determined in step 2, print calibration cubes by reducing the flow value so that the wall thickness equals the diameter of the nozzle. Typically, this is a flow rate of 40-60%.

(4) Next, print the target model and check that the printout was done correctly. It is possible that it will be necessary to readjust the flow, but within a few % of the value obtained in step 3.

Key features:

- Significant reduction in the weight of printed parts of up to 50%
- Active foaming technology
- Customizable material density
- The same number of prints can be obtained from one spool of Light Weight PLA as from two spools of standard PLA through a significantly reduced flow rate
- Matte finish to hide layer visibility
